The two-day summit, scheduled for April 2-3, will bring together African and EU leaders, as well as leaders of institutions under the EU and the African Union (AU).

It is on the theme, " Investing in People, Prosperity and Peace".

Discussions at the summit will centre on peace, security, climate change, investment and migration.

The Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) between the EU and Africa will also feature in the deliberations.

President Mahama was seen off at the Kotoka International Airport by the Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur; the Chief of Staff, Mr Prosper Bani, and the Interior Minister, Mr Kwesi Ahwoi.

Meanwhile, a statement issued from the Flagstaff House said President Mahama and other leaders from the continent would hold discussions with their European counterparts on how to deepen cooperation and foster human capital through education and training and how to create additional incentives for investment to stimulate growth and create jobs.

It said Mr Mahama would also lead a discussion on funding for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and take part in a number of working sessions at the summit, including a business forum.

“In addition, the President will attend a session being organised by the Africa Union Commission on the Roll Back Malaria programme, where he will be sharing Ghana's experiences in providing comprehensive health for all, especially in eliminating malaria,” it said.

The statement said on the margins of the fourth EU-Africa Summit, Mr Mahama would hold bilateral meetings with a number of world leaders attending the summit, including the President of France, the German Chancellor, among other dignitaries.

“As the new Chair of ECOWAS, President Mahama will seize the opportunity to champion the interests and positions of the ECOWAS sub-region on a number of issues. Later this weekend, President Mahama will be the special keynote speaker at a London School of Economics event on entrepreneurship,” it said, adding that the President would then address the World Urban Forum in Columbia before returning home early next week.
