President Mahama apologises for delaying National Farmers Day celebration

President John Dramani Mahama on Friday apologised profusely for his late arrival for the National Farmers Day celebrations held at Sefwi Wiawso in the Western Region.

He said a fault on the aircraft on which he and his entourage travelled from Accra for the event developed a technical problem which forced them to disembark and await another plane, hence the delay.

After saluting virtually everyone present at the national durbar, President Mahama said he could not proceed to address the occasion without apologising for the delay caused the programme , which was held on the theme: Eat What You Grow.

“I cannot begin my speech without expressing my regrets and apologies for the late start of this programme and for our late arrival here. It was because we had a technical problem with the plane that we were coming with and so we had to disembark and wait till another plane was secured to being us. And so let me express my apologies for the late start.

Beyond the apologies, President Mahama who described the celebration as a “historic 30th anniversary celebration of our National Farmers’ Day”, paid tribute to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for continuing to lead in the national effort to celebrate the nation’s farmers.

“To all brothers and sisters, as we celebrate this day in honour of farmers, I wish to say ayekoo to all of you. Through your hard work, your sweat, Ghana’s population of about 25 million people are fed daily and industries receive critical and much needed raw material for production. Through your dedicated efforts we are able to export agricultural products to generate foreign exchange for our nation and indeed your work continues to be the backbone of the Ghanaian economy. Ghana is very proud of you,” he said.
