Public officials help welcome fresh pupils to school

The beginning of the 2015/2016 academic year for basic schools was marked last Tuesday with visits by some government officials to some of the schools to welcome the children, especially freshers, kindergarten and class one pupils.

Exercise books, pencils, writing pads and other gifts were presented to the pupils.

Ga Central Municipality

In the Ga Central Municipality, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Aristo Aryee, accompanied by the Municipal Education Director, Ms Denise Dinah Oyeh Welbeck, and some circuit supervisors, visited schools such as the Odorgonno Model Basic School,  the Anyaa M/A Basic School and the St Justin Anglican “1 and 2” Primary schools, reports Charles Andoh.

Others were the Anyaa Community Experimental “1 and 2” Basic schools, the Ibun Kathir Islamic School, the Apostle Sarfo Basic School and the Happy Home Basic School.

Mr Aryee and his team interacted with some of the children and encouraged them to study hard in order to become responsible citizens and leaders in future.

With assistance from Bayport Financial Services Limited, the children were also given assorted drinks and biscuits to welcome them to school.

Dr Alfred Vanderpuije

Yaa Ntiriwaa Adjei reports that the Metrpolitan Chief Executive of Accra, Dr Alfred Vanderpuije visited the Manhean Basic School at Osu, the St Mary Virgin Anglican School, the Holy Family RC School at Mataheko and the Mamprobi 1 Basic School.

He interacted mostly with the kindergarten and primary school pupils during which he encouraged them to take education very seriously to enable them to become what they wish to be in future.

He particularly advised them against truancy and presented them with drinks and some writing materials.

Most of the schools looked clean, as their compounds had been swept and the rubbish neatly disposed of.

Dr Vanderpuije said he was impressed by the sanitation situation in the schools.

“If you look at the compounds, you can see that a lot of preparation went into welcoming pupils for ‘my first day at school’,” he said.

LaDMA officials

Officials of the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA), presented gifts to pupils reporting to school for the first time, reports Nii Martey M. Botchway.

They visited the La Enoba and La Wireless Primary schools.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Ms Rita Odoley Sowah, who led the tour of the schools, explained that the freebies were to get the children excited and motivated to stay in school, as most of them were experiencing the classroom for the first time.

She said at the request of the head teachers, the assembly would cause alphabet and numerical paintings and other drawings to be done on the walls of the school buildings to help create a learning environment in the schools.

She urged parents to speak local languages with their children at home.

Ms Sowah commended caterers providing meals for schools under the School Feeding Programme for the  quality food with which they were feeding the children.

The La Dadekotopon Municipal Director of Education, Mrs Bernice Addae, expressed satisfaction with enrolment figures and encouraged parents and guardians whose children and wards had not been enrolled yet to do so.
