Radio station closed down over illegal electricity connection
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Volta Region has closed down a radio station at Dambai in the Krachi East District of the Oti Region over an illegal electricity connection.
The operation conducted on January 8, 2020 revealed that the station, Kanor FM, had illegally connected power from a nearby electricity pole.
The company's Revenue Protection Team, which embarked on the operation, found seven air-conditioners, a radio transmitter and security lights in operation at the station which had been operating a test transmission for the past three months.

The team, which found no traces of an application for a new ECG connection by the station following checks at the Dambai District offices of the ECG, served notice to the management of the facility to report at the ECG Office for further investigations.
The Public Relations Officer, ECG, Volta Region, Mr Benjamin Obeng Antwi, in an interview with the Daily Graphic, said the station had also been surcharged GH¢38,000.
Watchdog role
Mr Antwi urged the public to play its watchdog role in reporting such unscrupulous activities to the company and said a six per cent reward in commission had been set on retrievals made by the company. He said the move was to serve as an incentive to the public.
