Renew commitment to God, pray for peace in Ghana - Muslims told
The Coalition of Muslim Organizations, Ghana (COMOG) has urged Muslims to use the occasion of the Ramadan fast to renew their commitment to their creator and pray for peace in Ghana and the world as a whole.

A statement signed by the General Secretary of COMOG, Hajj Abdel-Manan Abdel-Rahman, advised Muslims and followers of other religious faiths to coexist peacefully.
"COMOG wishes to seize this opportunity of this holy month to call on Muslims and non-Muslims to respect individual religious right and freedom, and eschew inflammatory language especially on sensitive national issues that could disturb the peace we are currently enjoying as a nation," it said.
The statement urged Muslimsw to make lessons and character that would be acquired during Ramadan to reflect in their everyday lives as stated in the Qur'an, Muslims are commanded to fast so that they may "learn self-restraint" (Qur'an 2:183).
Islam enjoins every adult Muslim to fast from dawn to dusk the full month of Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. Fasting is an opportunity to develop qualities of endurance and self-restraint, to control anger and foul language.
The main purpose of fasting as described in the Quran "so that you may attain Taqwa or God-consciousness." Fasting is an instrument for bringing us closer to our natural state for cleansing from the dross of any disobedience.
The statement wished victims of June 3, 2015 fire and flood disaster on admission a speedy recovery and extends its condolence to the bereaved families of the departed ones.
It appealed to the government to take pragmatic measures to prevent a recurrence of this kind of disaster in future by considering construction of huge underground drainage systems.
