The first phase of the scholarship started in April, during which 100 female students benefitted from the scheme, which includes financial and mentorship support.

The scheme is for students studying subjects including Science, Technology, Engineering and Marketing (STEM) as well as those in the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana Telecom University College and the University of Education, Winneba.

Speaking at the launch, the Director of Human Resources of the company, Mrs Stella Agyenim Boateng, observed that a number of women failed in the area of STEM because they lacked encouragement, financial aid and mentorship, hence the decision by Vodafone Ghana, in partnership with the British Council, to undertake the programme.

She mentioned that there were 36 women who had benefitted from the programme and were now working with the company and other organisations, adding that the package involved in the scholarship included the payment of government approved fees, provision of textbooks, uniforms, stationery and the provision of pocket money for the beneficiaries.

Miss Bridget Konadu Gyamfi,  officer in charge of the scholarship programme, mentioned that those who benefitted from the first phase were being monitored by some selected teachers in their various schools.

The Project Manager for the British Council, Mr Samuel Gyedu-Brefo, said application forms for the second phase of the scholarship had been made available and interested persons could pick up the forms from the British Council or any Vodafone office, indicating that the deadline for the submission of the forms was June 29, 2015.

He also said students could participate from any Vodafone branch office in the country and the best would be picked.
