Report criminals seeking refuge in temples

A spiritual scientist, Togbi Amuzu, has urged herbalists and spiritual healers to report people who commit crimes and seek refuge in their temple to the law enforcement agencies.

He expressed worry about how some traditional medicine practitioners opened their doors to all manner of people just for monetary gains, describing the practice as “greatly criminal.”

Speaking to the Daily Graphic  Togbi Amuzu said, “our temples should be clean and pure devoid of filth and all unlawful practices.”

A Circuit Court in Accra in July this year lauded Togbi Amuzu for his honesty by exposing a thief, Isaac Obenu.

Togbi Amuzu was consulted by Obenu, a houseboy, for spiritual help after stealing his master’s US$6,000.

The spiritualist, however, informed the complainant about Obenu’s action.

The Court, presided over by Ms Ellen Amoah, commended Togbi Amuzu, after sentencing Obenu to three years imprisonment for stealing. Obenu, 21, pleaded guilty and was sentenced on his own plea.

The Ashaiman Police are currently investigating a young man (name withheld) who came to the temple as a medical doctor and made some requests from Togbi Amuzu.

Togbi Amuzu expressed concern about the alarming reports of murders, in which some so- called spiritualists were involved, and asked “where is our value as a people?”

He cited recent reports of the arrest of a spiritualist at Anloga in the Volta Region for allegedly murdering a young man and said “these are the work of criminals and the law must deal with such people.”

He said every religion abhorred depriving one of his or her life and advocated a massive crusade against such criminal activities.
