Retool technical and vocational education - Rev. Kwesi Nkum Wilson

A senior lecturer at the Department of psychology and Education of the University of Education Winneba ,Rev. Kwesi Nkum Wilson,, has called on government to retool existing technical and vocational institutions.

The call according to Rev. Wilson is to make the country’s educational system more diversified so as to make provision for learners with varying competencies, skills interest and aspirations. 

Rev. Nkum Wilson who is also the chaplain of the University of Education, Winneba, made the call at the 15th anniversary celebration of (H and E) educational Centre in Winneba.

“Governments decision to build 200 secondary schools though laudable, at least 50 of it should be purely technical and vocational, I believe when vocational and technical education is placed in the right perspective, the nation will develop in the proper direction” he said. 

Rev. Nkum Wilson advised stakeholders in educational sector, to help improve educational system in Ghana.  

Speaking on the theme for the Occasion, Rev Nkum-Wilson opined that quality education is to transform the outlook and fire one’s imaginations especially in problem solving activities.

The Chief Executive officer of Henry and Efua (H&E) Educational Center, Hannah Efua Mills-Robertson in her anniversary report said, the school is faced with numerous challenges and called for public support to maintain and develop on the existing status of the school.

She said the school which started fifteen years ago with few students current has population of 791 students, with 227, pre – school, 371 primary school and 193 in junior high school, with 37 teaching and 16 non – teaching staff. 

She said, H and E Educational Centre has kept to its core mandate of delivering quality and affordable education to the Ghanaian child, recording 100% score at the BECE for the past five years. 

The CEO congratulated the parents’ teachers association (PTA) for assisting the school to improve its infrastructure. She advised parents to collaborate with the school authority to ensure quality education for the children.

The theme for the occasion was “Quality Education Delivery in 21st Century: the role of stakeholders.”

The occasion was also used to award deserving students at all levels.
