He was identified by the victim, who raised an alarm leading to his arrest.

Kwabena Asare, also known as Abodam, in the company of another suspected robber identified only as Oboy, now at large, was said to have robbed Beatrice Aniniwaah, a trader, of her handbag containing some personal items.

The accused and his accomplice managed to escape from the crime scene into the bush following an alarm raised by the victim. He left behind his motorbike and slippers when they were being chased by the crowd that came to the rescue of the victim.

However, few minutes after escaping arrest, Asare returned to the scene ostensibly to pick his motorbike and slippers.

It was while in the process of picking his motorbike that he was identified by the victim.

Asare, who appeared before a Kumasi Circuit Court last Friday charged with conspiracy to commit crime was remanded into police custody to re-appear on September 26.

Facts

Presenting the facts of the case, Superintendent of Police, Mr Emmanuel Akonnor, told the court that the complainant, Beatrice Aniniwa, was going home at about 9 pm on September 9 this year,  when the accused and his accomplice attacked her and demanded that she surrenders her handbag.

Mr Akonnor said when the victim resisted, she was head-butted by the accused, causing her to fall down and  the accused managed to snatch her handbag.

The victim then raised an alarm which attracted people to the scene, but sensing danger, the accused and his accomplice took to their heels, leaving  behind a pair of slippers and a motorbike.

According to the prosecution, few minutes later, Asare came back to pick his motorbike with registration number M13UE, and was identified by the victim, who raised the alarm for his arrest.

When he was sent to the Asokwa Police, he led the police to Gyinase MA Primary School where he kept the handbag.

Mr Akonnor said the bag was identified by Beatrice as hers.
