Sammy Gyamfi: GoldBod CEO files GH₵10million defamation suit against Afia Schwarzenegger

Samuel Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, has initiated legal proceedings against media personality Valentina Nana Acyeiwaa, known as Afia Schwarzenegger, at the Accra High Court.

The lawsuit, filed by Gyamfi's legal representatives at Sustineri Attorneys PRUC, seeks GH₵10 million in damages for alleged defamatory statements made in a TikTok video. Court documents cite specific claims by Schwarzenegger regarding Gyamfi's personal life and financial dealings.

In the video in question, Schwarzenegger stated in Asante Twi: "Tell Sammy Gyamfi's wife that I am greeting her. Her husband is still buying cars for girls in Legon... I am holding the list... Even his wife's younger sister has bought a house in the US." These statements were submitted to the court with an official English translation.

Gyamfi's legal team contends these remarks constitute defamation, alleging they falsely portray their client as engaging in improper relationships and financial misconduct. The filing includes requests for general damages, exemplary damages totalling GHS 10 million, and a permanent injunction against further similar publications.

The plaintiff has additionally demanded a retraction and public apology to be published in the Daily Graphic newspaper for three consecutive days, as well as on all platforms where the original content appeared.

In response to the lawsuit, Schwarzenegger in a Tiktok video indicated she does not intend to contest the legal action, adding that Mr. Gyamfi should be congratulated on his expected victory.

The court has issued an eight-day deadline for Schwarzenegger to formally respond to the writ following service of documents.
