President Carlos Manuel Vila Nova of São Tomé and Príncipe arrived in Ghana last night for high-level bilateral discussions with President John Dramani Mahama.

The visit, announced by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Okudzeto Ablakwa, on his Facebook page on February 22, 2025, is expected to strengthen ties between the two nations.

Ghana and São Tomé and Príncipe have collaborated in various sectors over the years.

In 2021, both countries signed agreements to enhance cooperation in trade, agriculture, mining, education, scientific research, health, transport, tourism, and energy.

The discussions during this visit are expected to focus on the implementation of these agreements and exploring new areas of collaboration.

President Vila Nova, who has been in office since October 2021, has prioritised regional partnerships and economic growth.

His engagements in Ghana will likely cover trade relations, investment opportunities, and diplomatic cooperation.

Foreign Affairs Minister Okudzeto Ablakwa, who welcomed President Vila Nova, expressed optimism about the visit, stating, “Long may Ghana-São Tomé and Príncipe relations flourish.”

The outcome of the bilateral talks could further deepen economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
