ADANU provided cement, roofing sheets, iron rods, paint and electricity for the building. The MP, for his part,  supplied sand and stone, while the community engaged in communal labour.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Adaklu, Mr Emmanuel Sky Ganaku, said the project, estimated at a cost of GH¢60,000,  had come to fill a gap in educational infrastructure in the district, adding that the district was open for support from other development partners.

Love for humanity

Mr Kwame Agbodza lauded the gesture of the development partners from the United States of America. According to him,  the foreign partners got involved in the project because of their love for humanity and not because they wanted an avenue to spend money.

The Director of Finance and Administration of ADANU, Mr Mypa Buckner, said the Adaklu-Kpogadzi Salvation Army Primary School project was the first to be executed since it took on a new corporate image, changing from  its original name,  Disaster Volunteers of Ghana (DIVOG) to ADANU.

He commended the teachers of the school for their perseverance in spite of teaching under trees and also for their commitment and their passion  for work.

He disclosed that the NGO would soon initiate three projects in the Adaklu District in the areas of health, communication and education in order to bring about improvement in the people’s standard of living.

Passion for children

The Director of Development of ADANU-USA, Madam Selly Morse, commended the community for demonstrating great passion for their children’s development because it assured them of a dependable future.

She urged the schoolchildren to appreciate the efforts and sacrifices of their parents and reciprocate by learning hard so as to gain employment in future so they can be of help to their families and society.

The Inspectorate Officer of the Volta Regional office of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr Forster Anumah, said there was a strong bond of collaboration among parents, teachers and pupils and urged that it was sustained in order to foster  development in the area.

The chief of the town, Togbe Sekpe II, who chaired the function, appealed for toilet facilities for the school.
