The two groups had been allegedly hired by two individuals to attack each other after a misunderstanding ensued between them.

The confrontation is alleged to have started when a motorbike belonging to one of the two individuals, identified only as Emma, was destroyed by a friend whose name was given as Kofi.

Kofi is said to have pledged to pay for the repairs but failed to pay an outstanding amount of GH¢50.

Kofi’s inability to make full payment for the repairs created a misunderstanding between him and Emma.

Clash

Following that, the two men were alleged to have engaged two groups also alleged to be thugs to attack each other. The thugs were armed with weapons such as clubs, knives and machetes.

The clash threw the entire community into a state of pandemonium, with most of the residents running for their lives.

After the police had fired warning shots to maintain order, they made some arrests.

Those arrested were Osman Gaforo, Sadick Abubakar and Kingsley Twum, all from Tema, and Theophilus Mensah of Gomoa Aboso, who had been hired by Emma.

None of the thugs allegedly hired by Kofi was arrested.

Briefing

Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Swedru District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr Paul Wesley Baah, said the police had a distress call around 3:30 p.m. last Sunday that the suspects, who were alleged to be armed robbers, had been locked up in the toilet belonging to Charles Aryittey, popularly known as Sir Charles.

He added that the police proceeded to the scene and effected their arrest, adding that items retrieved from them were kitchen knives, a long dagger, a talisman and a motor chain.

According to him, on the spot investigations revealed that the suspects were not armed robbers, as had been reported, but rather people hired by Emma to attack some youth in the community.

Investigations are ongoing.
