An  entrepreneur  and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Prof. Quarm Group of Companies, Mr Joseph Albert Quarm, has advised the youth to take advantage of  the existing  economic challenges and opportunities to create jobs.

According to him, one very important component of developing  a business was the  identification of a prospect in a business area and moving to  create the  business .

Mr Quarm gave the advice in an interview with  the Daily Graphic on the sidelines of the recently held 4th edition of the Excellence Leadership Award at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.

The award ceremony, which was on the theme: “Innovative leadership; a requisite for development,” sought to honour men and women who have distinguished themselves in their various endeavours across all facets of leadership and national life.

Prof. Quarm Publications Limited is a publishing house that prints  science textbooks  for various institutions. The CEO is an experienced science teacher who has taught in many senior high schools in Ghana and abroad and currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Biological Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

“Before I started developing these science books, I realised that there was only one science book  which was provided by the government that students could not take home and read after school; I took advantage of this challenge and started developing Prof. Quarm Science Series and here I am,” he stressed.

He believes that the economic environment may not be too flexible for businesses to thrive, particularly start-ups, but the youth has no excuse not to strive to  break the odds and use innovation and creativity to succeed.

He stressed that  innovative and transformational leaders view the world as a multi-dimensional, multifaceted set of interdependencies that are continually in motion. “To them, challenges become opportunities. They take advantage of the resources at their disposal coupled with the benefit of time to address challenges that might seem daunting to others”.

He mentioned that these are individuals who are not afraid to fail.  They spend most of their time thinking of new and creative ways to solve problems. They make major sacrifices in order to see their dreams  become actualised and are willing to go the full length in defense of it.

He  took the  opportunity to encourage the youth to take steps to groom themselves by taking a capacity-building training which would help nurture their abilities to be innovative as they face the challenges of the 21st century.
