The invitation was for the Second National Intercultural Choral Workshop (NIWC) hosted by the St. Louis African Chorus, also known as African Musical Arts Incorporated.

Their visit followed the wide acclaim they received during last year’s tour.

TYC was also praised for the exemplary leadership and personal responsibility skills that its Founder and Director, Mr Ebenezer A. Allotey, had instilled into the group.

The group also used the tour to showcase Ghana while they exchanged ideas with other participants.

For a month and few weeks, they were immersed in American culture while connecting with Ghanaian communities in the United States.

TYC served as the Special Guest Choir for the festival and undertook a limited tour of Chicago, Woodbridge, Washington DC, Silver Spring, and Irvington.

The group also had the opportunity to worship at President Obama’s former church, Trinity United Church of Christ, in Chicago, and the African Community United Methodist Church, also in Chicago (Illinois).

Ghana’s Ambassador to the US,  Lt. Gen. Joseph Smith, could not hide his joy when the choir visited him and the embassy.

Impressed by their performance, he promised to arrange for the choir to exhibit the Ghanaian culture and music to others  on their next visit.

Mr Ebenezer A. Allotey said “on the whole, this was a successful trip that exposed Americans and Ghanaians in the diaspora to the best in Ghanaian culture and music exemplified by the excellent members of the Tema Youth Choir.”

He was appreciative of the roles played by the Technology Managing Group Ltd, Sahara Group Ltd, Ecobank Ghana, Ghana Wesley United Methodist Church, Woodbridge and Dr Fredo Onovwerosuoke, founder of the African Musical Arts Inc and patrons of the choir.
