Thieves stall work on Tse Addo-Teshie road
Work on the road linking Tse Addo at La to Teshie in Accra has stalled because some suspected thieves have stolen the batteries of four tractors and other equipment of the contractor executing the project.

The suspects, who are yet to be arrested, have also stolen batteries of a number of vehicles which were parked at different locations within the Tse Addo area.
According to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA), Ms Rita Odoley Sowah, the contractor, Oswal Construction, had reported the case to the police who were investigating the matter.
Ms Sowah told the Daily Graphic that armed robbery cases had increased in the area, and the assembly was working with the security agencies to contain the situation.
She observed that since Tse Addo was a new community which was still being developed, armed robbers took advantage to operate in the area.
She said hardly a day passed without reports of armed robbers attacking residents at gun point and making life unbearable for the people.
She said the firm had been working day and night to accomplish the project on schedule as it was paramount to the assembly,
Work on schedule
Ms Sowah said on June 17, 2014, the firm could not work at night because of the downpour that hit some parts of the capital only for the workers to return the next morning to find that all the batteries of their equipment had been stolen.

Although the compartments for the batteries had been locked with padlocks, she said the robbers managed to break the locks and carried the batteries away.
Other vehicles
From the construction site, the robbers removed the batteries of two bread distribution Benz buses belonging to a bakery. At a heavy-duty machine shop, they also removed three batteries from a trailer that had been parked in front of the shop.
The MCE appealed to residents to be security conscious and report any suspicious movement of people or vehicles roaming about in the area.
“A police station that is being put up by the assembly has reached an advanced stage. There are also plans in the works, which are far advanced, to construct a police barracks to offer accommodation to police personnel who will be posted to the municipality,” Ms Odoley Sowah divulged.
