An Opel Astra taxi with registration number GS 8279-Y, which was carrying the items suspected to have been stolen, has also been impounded by the police.

The suspects have been identified as Ernest Baflo, 25, driver; Haruna Seidu, 32 and Ampa Benjamin,  24, both said to be security officers at BXC Company Ltd where the items were stolen.

A statement issued last Thursday by the Tema Regional Police Public Relations Unit said a team of police personnel intercepted the vehicle at the Kpone Industrial Area on February 27, 2015.

It said the driver of the vehicle, identified as Ernest Baflo, led the police to BXC Company, contractors for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), at the Kpone Light Industrial Area where he claimed he was a worker.

Confession

Upon interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to stealing the items with the assistance of two security men working for G4S Security detailed to guard BXC.

The police statement mentioned the two security men as Haruna Seidu and Ampa Benjamin.

Accomplices

According to the Tema Regional Police Command, during investigations, it was revealed that the two men were allegedly bribed with GH¢400 to pave the way for the goods to exit the gates of BXC.

The statement said Baflo had since been charged with stealing while the two accomplices, Haruna Seidu and Ampa Benjamin, had also been charged with abetment.

Collaboration

Meanwhile, the Regional Command led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mrs Beatrice Zakpaa Vib-Sanziri, has commended members of the police patrol team, whose prompt action and alertness led to the arrest of the alleged suspects.

She also appealed to members of the public to alert the police of any movement of goods suspected to be stolen and information on other criminal activities.
