Towards ECOWAS integration: Police Administration collapses illegal barriers

The police administration says it has with immediate effect, barred policemen along the ECOWAS Transit corridors from conducting motor checks on transit cargo trucks.

Consequently, the administration has asked all regional police commanders “to ensure that transit cargo trucks are allowed free access along the corridors to their countries of destination,” a statement issued by the administration Monday, and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police and Director-General/Public Affairs Department, Rev. David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin, directed.
                                                      

The directive, according to the statement titled Extortion At Police Barriers, is geared at facilitating smooth movement of goods and services among the ECOWAS countries.

Meanwhile the statement named seven approved checkpoints as “the ECOWAS approved police barriers on the central corridor,” and reminded all regional police commanders of their responsibility to ensure that activities of policemen on the road do not hamper trade between the country and other ECOWAS member States.
