A 34-year-old man has appeared  before the Amasaman District Magistrate Court A for stealing a lady’s purse.

Mohammed Ali, pleaded not guilty  and was granted bail in the sum of GHC2,500.

Ali is  a trader  while the complainant, Jennifer Asante, is a nurse at the Urgent Care Hospital at Achimota in Accra.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt F.A. Ansah , on October 1, 2014, Asante  reported to work at about 7:40 a.m. and  left  her bag at the general ward  to attend  morning devotion.

On her way out of the ward, she met Ali who greeted  her. A  few minutes later, Ali was spotted by another nurse, who is a witness in this case, picking a purse from Asante’s bag.

Sgt Ansah said immediately Ali saw the witness, he  threw the purse on the floor and bolted but he was pursued and arrested.

A complaint was lodged with the police  and after investigations,  Ali was charged  before the  court.

According to Sgt Ansah, the purse contained an amount of GHC40.00, a mobile phone  and a make-up kit.

The prosecutor said Ali is still in police custody because he could not meet the bail terms.
