Two dead in early morning trailer crash at Asukawkaw

Personnel from the Pai Katanga Fire Post of the Ghana National Fire Service in the Oti Region have recovered two bodies following a fatal road accident at Asukawkaw in the early hours of Sunday, February 22.

According to a GNFS statement, the fire crew responded to the incident at about 4:00 am after receiving a distress call about an overturned trailer truck.

A four-member team led by Sub Officer John J. Kpego arrived at the scene at approximately 4:42 am in a police vehicle to find the mangled trailer, with registration number GS 6425–12, lying on its side and two occupants trapped beneath the wreckage.

Firefighters undertook nearly seven hours of intensive rescue operations, using cutting and spreading equipment to gain access to the crushed cabin. They eventually retrieved two deceased victims from the wreckage and handed the bodies over to the Ghana Police Service for preservation and further investigation.

A driver’s licence bearing the name Suleman Hadaru Yusif was discovered inside the vehicle, which authorities believe may assist in identifying the victims.

Officials say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
