Unauthorised speed humps hamper safety near Ada Junction
Residents of Addokope, near Ada Junction in the Greater Accra Region, have constructed unauthorised speed humps on some portions of the main Ada-Aflao road.

The four humps which are on a stretch about 10 metres, are about 10 inches in height and very thick in size. They have covered only about half of the road, creating a nuisance to commuters on that stretch of the road.
The situation is such that vehicles that ply the Ada-Aflao road enter other lanes, impeding the movement of oncoming vehicles.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, Mr Heneson Asamanyuah, a farmer in the area, said residents took the decision to construct those humps to restrain reckless drivers who sped on that stretch of the road and, in the process, killed people, especially children.
Children killed
In 2013, six schoolchildren aged between eight and 10 were knocked down and killed instantly by driver who was speeding.
He added that just a fortnight ago, four children were knocked down in a similar fashion, resulting in the death of three of them.
Mr Asamanyuah said last Saturday three of the children were buried.

He further intimated that many calls had been made to the Ghana Highway Authority for something to be done to deter drivers from speeding on that part of the road but their calls had been ignored.

He said the people intended to mount smaller humps and a signpost to give an indication of major humps ahead but were not able to do so due to the warning that was given by the police from the Tema Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) to them to stop the exercise.
According to him, the Ada West District had also been notified with letters about the problem and the people had given the district a month’s ultimatum to either mount standard humps or they would continue with their plans.
"We are cautioning drivers to reduce the speed on that stretch of the road so that precious lives will be saved," he added.
