Upper Manya increases revenue
The Upper Manya Krobo District Assembly in the Eastern Region exceeded its revenue target last year by 108.75 per cent by collecting GH¢230,956.87 against GH¢212,366.00 budgeted for the year.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Joseph Tetteh Angmor, announced this at the assembly’s first meeting of the year at Asesewa, the district capital.
He said the achievement was the result of prudent measures instituted by the assembly.
The assembly, according to Mr Angmor, also received GH¢607,641.41 as its share of the Common Fund for the fourth quarter of 2012 and the first and second quarters of 2013, out of which GH¢585,417.80 was used on development projects and programmes.
According to the DCE, although the assembly could not execute many projects last year because of lack of funds, a lot of social amenities such as school buildings and roads had either been renovated or constructed since 2009.
The assembly, apart from its own projects, has supported communities that have initiated their own projects with funds and construction materials, which had helped to improve the living condition of the people.
To further improve the lot of the people, Mr Angmor told the House that 197 kilometres of feeder roads in the area had been awarded on contract and that work had already began on some of them, especially on the Bisa-Junction-Aframase-Apimsu-Fantem Road.
The Asesewa lorry park, he said, was being rehabilitated as well as the market where a security light had been provided and 80 stalls had also being built.

Rural communities such as Nyafutu, Brukum Tsrebuana, Sibrinor, Nyonyoen and Brukum Kponya, which had not been hooked to the national grid had also been supplied with solar lights.
Physically challenged persons in the area, totalling 216 from 13 communities such as Bisa, Apimsu, Otrokper, Akateng, Fantem, Mensa Dawa, Poukper, Sekesua-Osonson and Fefe/Konkoney had also been provided with funds to undertake income generating ventures.
An amount of GH¢9,166.00 had also been disbursed to cater for the education of 29 physically challenged persons in senior high, vocational, colleges of education and the universities.
The assembly, according to Mr Angmor, had also given out GH¢67,384.00 to 152 people living below the poverty line under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) initiative while efforts were being made to include 230 others on the same programme.
On street naming, the DCE said the project was on course and solicited the help of assembly members and the chiefs.
Earlier, the Presiding Member, Mr Joseph Kojo Numoh, asked the assembly members to put aside their political affiliations as well as personal interest and work together to ensure development in the district.
