US Delegation engages climate change Minister on Clean Water Innovation and Sustainable Development

A United States delegation from The Outreach Program and Liberty University has met Ghana’s Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability, Issifu Seidu, to discuss partnerships in climate resilience, food security, and sustainable development.

The Outreach Program, based in Iowa, was represented by its Executive Chairman and Co-Founder, Mr. Floyd Hammer, and Co-Founder, Mrs. Kathy Hammer, while Liberty University was represented by its International Partnerships Director, Mr. James Molesey.

They were accompanied by their local partner, EKLIPS Investments Ghana Limited, represented by General Manager, Mr. Augustine Kanton.

During the courtesy call, the delegation extended two formal invitations to Minister Seidu — to attend the World Food Prize 2025 Borlaug Dialogue in Des Moines, Iowa, from 21–23 October 2025, and the CEO Summit 2025 at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

The Minister confirmed his intention to attend the Borlaug Dialogue, describing it as a valuable platform for advancing Ghana’s sustainable agriculture and climate action goals.

The visiting team also presented an innovative water-point system designed to provide clean drinking water to communities facing shortages due to climate change impacts. Minister Seidu welcomed the technology, describing it as an “excellent intervention,” particularly for areas affected by illegal mining (galamsey), which has destroyed many of Ghana’s water bodies.

He stressed the need for the system to be adapted to remove mercury and lead contamination — heavy metals commonly found in mining-affected water sources — noting that these toxins pose severe health risks.

“This solution, if deployed and refined to address heavy metal contamination, could restore safe drinking water to thousands of Ghanaians in mining communities,” he said. “It is a critical step toward safeguarding public health and achieving our climate and sustainability commitments.”

The meeting concluded with a commitment from all parties to strengthen collaboration on clean water delivery, climate resilience measures, and sustainable development initiatives in Ghana.
