VIDEO - Omane Boamah's vetting as Defence Minister: Inconsistency in timing at committee's secretariat creates wrong impression

An inconsistency in timing at the Appointment Committee of Parliament's secretariat created a wrong impression on Tuesday morning about Dr Edward Omane Boamah's vetting as Minister of Defence.

When the committee members started proceedings at 10 am and the nominee, Dr Edward Omane Boamah was invited to take his seat, he was absent.

The Ranking Member of the committee, Alexander Afenyo Markin, who is also the Minority Leader in Parliament went ahead to announce that the vetting was going to be postponed and a decision taken for another day.

He explained that the Clerk to the Committee had indicated that he had informed Dr Omane Boamah to be present at 9am and he was not present as of 10 am.

He went ahead to announce that the committee will meet and take a decision on the nominee.

However, upon prompting after a few minutes, Mr Afenyo Markin explained that an inconsistency in the communication of the time for the vetting had created a wrong impression that Dr Omane Boamah was late for his vetting.

He explained that it had been confirmed that the letter inviting Dr Omane Boamah had indicated 11am, and the Clerk had also confirmed  same, and that the letter stated 11 am.

However, Mr Afenyo Markin explained that it was the Clerk, who claimed he had made a phone call requesting Dr Omane Boamah to be there at 9 am.

The Minority Leader therefore said the inconsistency, in the time from the Secretariat of the committee, should not create the wrong impression that, Dr Omane Boamah was late for the vetting.

Dr Omane Boateng arrived some minutes later ahead of his 11 am scheduled vetting.
