The six-month integrated educational programme is aimed at assisting the inductees, who are fashion designers and tailors, to sharpen their skills in order to be successful on the global fashion stage.

In an interview with The Mirror after the induction ceremony held on the premises of Tex Styles Ghana Ltd in Tema, Mr Stephen Badu, the Marketing Director of Vlisco Ghana, explained that the ultimate aim of the programme was to improve the confidence level of the trainees by giving them the needed skills and resources to make them globally competitive.

"African fashion is gradually gaining global attention. To compete effectively on that stage, we need the men and women who are not just talented but well-motivated, well-equipped and empowered to do so.” Mr Badu said.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Imperial Fashion and Design School, which is partnering Vlisco Ghana on the programme, Nana Menyin Kwofie, said the trainees would be provided with practical and industry knowledge to mould them into world class fashion designers.

She urged the candidates to step out of their comfort zones and become trail blazers.

Ms Elizabeth Patterson, the Founder and Director of the Girls Education Initiative of Ghana, and Patron of the Vlisco Group Tailor Academy, urged the inductees to make good use of the opportunity offered them and be creative in all that they did, especially in the area of design creation.

Ms Patterson, who is this year’s winner of the Vlisco Women’s Month Award, urged them to defy all odds and see the programme as an opportunity for them to project themselves and the image of the institutions offering them the training.

Two of the beneficiaries, Mr Samuel Kofi Krampah and Ms Salomay Dede Armah, expressed their appreciation for the opportunity offered them and pledged their readiness and commitment to ensure that investments made for their welfare produced the desired results.
