We're in process of responding to audit queries - Korle Bu CEO

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has said it is in the process of responding to audit observations made by the Audit Service on the 2014 expenditure of the hospital.

A statement signed by its acting Chief Executive, Dr Gilbert Buckle, said the management of the hospital had not reached the stage where individuals mentioned in the observations would be contacted, explaining that presently the audit observations did not constitute the final report.

It was in response to a news item carried in the October 21, 2014 edition of the Daily Graphic with the headline, “Refund GH¢966,000 — Audit report orders 3 top ex-officials of Korle-Bu”.

“The hospital apologises to individuals mentioned in the story for any embarrassment the report may have caused them,” it added.

According to the statement, the management of Korle Bu appreciated the concerns of the public and assured all interested stakeholders that the board and the management, in responding to the audit observations, would follow due process and diligence.

It said the audit observations were presented to the management of the hospital on September 3, 2014 as part of its regular mandated practices conducted twice a year.

Background 

The Daily Graphic, on Tuesday, October 21, 2014, reported that an interim report on the 2014 expenditure accounts of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital had made allegations of infraction against the former board and the management of the hospital.

It said the Audit Service, which conducted the audit, recommended that a number of individuals, including the former Board Chair of the hospital, Mr Edward Annan, an the former Medical Director, Professor Afua Hesse, should be made to refund amounts of money totalling GH¢966,116.97 to the hospital.
