Mensah’s plea of not guilty was not taken and he was remanded by the circuit court, presided over by Mr Asmah Akwasi Asiedu, a High Court judge with additional responsibility at the court.

He was later granted bail in the sum of GH¢5,000 with a surety.

The facts of the case as presented by Chief Inspector John Akutteh, the prosecutor, were that on April 15, 2015, at about 8:30 a.m., the complainant,  a businesswoman, was in her room preparing to go to the market when she heard noise in the room of her brother.

She thought the brother, who had travelled, had returned home and so she called the brother’s name and welcomed him.

The prosecutor said the complainant was expecting the brother to acknowledge her greetings but she heard nothing and so she got closer to his room to check what was happening.

The prosecutor said the complainant rather saw Mensah in the room and she raised an alarm.

He said Mensah, sensing danger, hid a Multi TV decoder valued at GH¢350  under his armpit and jumped through the window and bolted.

Meanwhile, the alarm raised by the complainant attracted the attention of people who chased Mensah, arrested and sent him to the police station together with the stolen item.
