West African Quarries commence aggregate production
The West African Quarries Limited (WAQL), has begun full-scale production of aggregates in the Shama District of the Western Region.

Located at Atta-Ne-Atta, the company, a subsidiary of Ghacem Limited, has the capacity to produce an average of 250 tons aggregate per hour, using a three-stage mobile crusher.
Inaugurating the project, Mr Daniel Gauthier, a member of the Managing Board of Heidelberg Cement Group who doubles as the Chairman of Ghacem Board, said being the leading aggregate producer in the world, the group deemed it necessary to expand its production to ensure the supply of quality aggregates for construction work.
“As a subsidiary of Ghacem Limited, we hope the country will accord it the same trust as it has given to the Ghacem brand for the past 45 years and together, they continue being the nation builder”.
The Project Manager of WAQL, Mr Francois Barbieux, noted that the quarry had particularly targeted projects in the western and central part of the country in order to meet the ever-increasing demand for quality aggregates for road projects.
The Vice-President, Kwasi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, whose address was read on his behalf by the Western Regional Minister, Ebenezer KwadwoTeye Addo, commended the Heidelberg Cement Group for investing in Ghana and the sub-region.
He noted that such a move would speed up development in the region, reduce the unemployment rate in the country and provide jobs for the youth.
The Chairman of the WAQL Board and the Managing Director of Ghacem, Mr Morten Gade , said the addition of a new business to the company’s portfolio was a manifestation of its quest to become a one-stop-shop for quality building materials “particularly in cement and aggregate for nation building”.

Later in an interview with the media , Dr George Dawson-Ahmoah, emphasised that WAQL would join Ghacem to continue its corporate social responsibility programmes , including the Ghacem Cement Foundation which distributes free cement annually to deprived communities in the country.
