ECG disconnects state agencies, others to retrieve revenue in Western region

The Western Regional office of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has initiated an exercise to retrieve monies owed it by individuals and government agencies.

Accordingly, it has started a mass disconnection exercise and prosecution of illegal clients.

Some of the state agencies affected by the mass disconnection exercise includes the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) transmission station in Tarkwa, University of Mines (UMaT), Tarkwa Municipal Hospital and other health institutions as well as domestic and private companies.

According to the ECG, customers in the region owe more than Gh¢4million and were not making any effort to pay.

Currently, GBC television transmission in the Western Region has been affected, following the disconnection of its Tarkwa station.

GBC owe GH¢224,008, UMaT owe GH¢1.2 million and has part of its campus disconnected. The university has been given up to the end of October to settle all arrears.
