
Women in rural communities strive for dev
The International Day of Rural Women is observed globally on October 15 each year to highlight the contributions of rural women, who are said to constitute more than one quarter of the total world's population.
Established by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly resolution 62/136 of December 18, 2007, the first International Day for Rural Women was observed on October 15, 2008 to recognise “the critical role and contribution of rural women, including indigenous women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty.”

To commemorate this year’s event, the Daily Graphic visited Zoggu, a rural community in the Savelugu Municipality in the Northern Region to interact with some rural women in the community who are mainly into agriculture, agro-processing and retailing of agro-commodities, to share their experiences in their areas of operation.
