The road, which is 1.7 kilometre long, links the main Giffard Road that passes behind the Trade Fair and terminates on the main road in front of the Labadi Beach Hotel.

The first phase of the road works, 4.3 km in length, begun at a point from the Zenith College, which is behind the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre. The portion of the road linking La to parts of Teshie and Nungua has already been completed.

Second phase

Oswal Investments Limited, the contractor working on the first phase, is the same contractor working on the second phase. The works involve the construction of drains on both sides of the road, levelling of the ground to a smooth horizontal and application of bitumen overlay.

The Municipal Chief Executive of the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA), Ms Rita Odoley Sowah, who toured sections of the road to familiarise herself with the extent of work, has expressed her satisfaction with work done so far.

She said considering the fact that the project was a central government-sponsored one, it was anticipated that it would be executed perfectly and on schedule.

Project

According to Ms Sowah, the assembly held the project very dear because it would shorten the time residents took to travel from one place to another since the heavy traffic that usually piled on the Nungua-Teshie road would be avoided. She said the assembly would ensure that the project was not unduly delayed.

The La Dadekotopon Municipal Chief Executive disclosed that an expanse of space behind the Trade Fair would eventually be converted into a mini-market so that residents would not have to travel long distances for their purchases.

She encouraged the contractor to endeavour to complete the road before the rains set in. She commended the contractor for attaching seriousness to the job.

Partner stakeholders

Ms Sowah said the assembly would continue to partner stakeholders in the area to ensure that the road was well maintained in order for it to achieve the purpose for which it was constructed.

“The government, through the assembly, would continue to perform its mandate so that residents would be safe and comfortable to go about their businesses,” she said.

She urged residents of La to support the assembly by performing their civic duties in order to attract more development projects to the community.

Completion schedule

The Managing Director of Oswal Investments Limited, Mr Humphrey Awuletey-Williams,said the company had engaged two gangs of workers on the project in its  attempt to complete it on time.

“Construction of drains on one side of the road, which was started about two weeks ago, would be completed this week.

“Soon after we complete drainage works on both sides of the road, we will construct a pedestrian walkway to prevent people from being knocked down by vehicles,” he said.

Mr Awuletey-Williams expressed his appreciation to the assembly for the contract and promised to work very hard to complete the work on schedule.
