The project, which is about 65 per cent complete, is expected to be completed by the end of December 2024.

The $59 million plant, which is being constructed by the Bui Power Authority (BPA), is expected to boost power supply in the municipality and the region at large.

This came to light when the Parliamentary-select Committee on Energy and the management of BPA inspected the project to assess the progress of work and engage with the various stakeholders.

So far, all the panels have been installed and the construction of bungalows for staff and other finishing touches are ongoing.

Power supply

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BPA, Samuel Kofi Ahiave Dzamesi, expressed satisfaction with the progress of work done so far, urging the contractors to speed up work so as to meet the schedule.

He indicated that the plant formed part of the authority's commitment to boost the power supply and improve the lives of the people in the region while reducing the pressure on the existing transmission lines.

Mr Dzamesi said the BPA intended to inject 100 Megawatts into the national grid to improve electricity supply in the region.

"We are blessed with the sun, you don't need to go and buy it before you produce the power, the land is enough to build 100 MW.

“So after the first phase of the project, we intend to add another 50 MW to make it 100 MW," Mr Dzamesi added.

He said that the authority had initiated a pilot project in wind energy to boost its transition towards sustainable power generation.

The Board Chairman of BPA, Kwesi Ameyaw Cheremeh, said the intervention was in line with the government's quest to provide sustainable power supply to all across the country.

"As a country, we want to get to net zero by 2060 and this project would fit into that future development," he added.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Yendi, Farouk Aliu Mahama, lauded the Bui Power Authority for initiating the project in the municipality, adding that it would go a long way to create jobs for the youth and open up the area.
