The building complex has a conference room, four offices, two washrooms and a children’s learning centre. It is envisaged that the provision of the facility will assist to enhance the operations of the WV in the region, which is primarily geared towards promoting the well-being of children and families in deprived areas.

Gratitude

The National Director of WV, Mr Hubert Charles, in inaugurating the building, expressed his gratitude to Afrikids, a member of World Vision’s development partners, for "generously allowing WV staff to share their office with them."

According to Mr Charles, the act of generosity, however, had its own challenges as officers of WV, Afrikids had to work within a limited space for six years.

"I once again wish to thank the leadership of Afrikids, especially the Manager, Mr Joseph Asakibeem, and staff for sharing their office building with us all these years,” he noted.

The National Director of World Vision said the broader goal of his outfit was to contribute and bring about improvements in the lives of the millions of vulnerable boys and girls and their families throughout the country.

"We are of the hope that this target would be achieved by 2015," Mr Charles indicated.

He said in the Kassena Nankana West District, WV with the support of its development partners were addressing issues of livelihood, education, health, hygiene, water and sanitation.

In the area of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), for instance, he said, WV had provided 127 manual boreholes and a mechanised are in the district. He said the boreholes were benefitting about 36,600 people out of which 26,142 were children. He observed that as a result of this, water coverage for households in the WV Programme impact area had increased from 58 per cent in 2008 to 98 per cent as of May, 2014.

Additionally, he said, "We have supported households and schools with improved sanitation facilities such as latrines and hand-wash basins." These facilities, together with the provision of potable water, Mr Charles noted, had contributed to the reduction in reported cases of typhoid and diarrhoea among children under five years.

He said further that since 2008, WV had trained 217 pump maintenance volunteers who are able to repair minor breakdowns associated with boreholes in the Kassena Nankana West District, which has led to 120 of the boreholes still being functional.

"World Vision is therefore confident that with all these interventions and skills available in the communities, the people of Kassena Nankana West are assured of the availability of potable water with or without World Vision," he said.

The Bolgatanga Operations Base Team Leader, Madam Benedicta Pealore, on behalf of her colleagues, promised to take good care of the facilities.

The Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Daniel Syme, commended WV for its hard work at improving the living conditions of residents in Northern Ghana, particularly those of children in deprived communities.

On behalf of the Upper East Regional Co-ordinating Council, he made a commitment to support the efforts of the organisation and its development partners as they worked to alleviate the suffering of inhabitants in rural communities.
