The product, which was launched in Accra last Wednesday, gives a user the option of the full function of a laptop, with the convenience of a tablet.

Assistance to the British Council

Zepto Limited, which built the first technology production plant in Ghana in 2010, has also donated 10 UmiTab 10.1 Tablet PCs to the British Council’s Skills Hub project, extending its training and skills development to Ghana.

The devices are expected to contribute to the goal of the British Council and the Rockefeller Foundation to train 1000 high potential, disadvantaged youth for the 2016/2017 period to give them skills to start careers in digital industries.

Speaking at the launch of the product, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zepto Limited, Mr Charles Ofori, said: “We are excited about what we are offering Ghanaians. Not only does the UmiTab 10.1 offer quality at a low price, but it also provides Microsoft’s familiar, fast and secure software as well as a long battery life.”

Technical support

Mr Ofori said as part of efforts to provide Ghanaians with enhanced services, teams had been deployed countrywide to provide the needed technical support to customers after they had purchased the device.

The Consumer Channels Group Lead for Microsoft in the West and Central Africa, Mr Mark Pritchard, said since the launch of Windows 10 in July 2015, more than 200 million monthly active devices around the world were running Windows 10.

He said it was the most secure Windows software ever that was kept automatically up-to-date with innovations and security updates.

“The enhanced security features are a real benefit for those using genuine software. Customers get built-in, enterprise-grade security that enables them to replace passwords with more secure options, protect their data and identities, and run only the software they trust,” he explained.
