According to the Regional Vector Control Officer of Zoomlion, Mr Ezekiel Ayamga, the exercise was carried out with support from the municipal and district assemblies in the region.

He said with the onset of the rainy season, there had been an invasion of houseflies known to be carriers of bacteria and viruses that cause diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea and dysentery. He said the company was on high alert in the region and was determined to deal effectively with any agent that carried or transmitted diseases.

Disease control

He said in order to effectively deal with the growing population of houseflies and their adverse impact on human lives in the rainy season, there was the need for mass spraying exercises to be carried out continuously across the region and particularly in areas noted to be breeding grounds for houseflies and other disease carrying insects.

Mr Ayamga mentioned some of the areas as public places of convenience, institutional toilets, refuse containers, landfill sites and refuse dumping sites.

Nandom District

The Nandom District Environmental Health Officer, Jerry Sabogu Yakubu, described the company’s venture as timely and said it was a huge relief for the people.

He lauded the cordial relations between the Nandom District Assembly and Zoomlion and attributed the absence of cholera cases in the district last year to a mass spraying exercise undertaken by Zoomlion.

He said he was hopeful that this year’s spraying exercise would go a long way to curb the outbreak of diseases in the district and the region at large.
