Health Minister directs Korle-Bu to reopen renal dialysis unit to outpatients

The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu has directed the management of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to immediately reopen the Renal Dialysis Unit to outpatients.

The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in May 2023 shut down the Renal Unit to outpatients

In-patients however have access to the facility.

The reason for the shutdown to outpatients was that there was a delay in the delivery of some consumables.

In a radio interview on Accra-based Citi FM on Thursday [November 2], the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, Isaac Baah Ofei said the Minister has directed the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to immediately reopen the Unit for outpatient services.

“The Minister has directed the Chief Executive Officer of Korle-Bu to as a matter of urgency, see to the opening of the centre and so he directed as well that while it is opened, Korle-Bu should issue a statement for the general public to know exactly what is going on and when they can get access to the place.”

Minister summoned

Meanwhile, Parliament has summoned the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, to explain why the Renal Unit of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital has been closed to outpatients.

The Minister is expected to report in parliament on Thursday, November 9, 2023.
