Queenmother appeals for help to complete maternity project
The Manya Krobo Divisional Queenmother at Kpong in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region, Manye Maku I, has appealed for help to complete the Kpong Maternity Home Project at Ayipala, a suburb of Kpong, which is 85 per cent complete.
She called on the general public, including individuals, philanthropists, non-governmental organisations, civil society organisations and religious bodies, among others, to come to her aid to complete the project.
The 60-bed capacity one-storey Kpong Maternity Home Project I, with support from the Ensign Global College and a few committee members, started about two years ago and is 85 per cent complete.
She said the need to complete the project had become dire to help ease the pressure on the current health centre at Ayipala.
‘’How far we have gotten will be sincerely and seriously attributed to the project committees’ efforts, as well as organisations, institutions, religious bodies and individual donors. The project would not have gotten to this far without the support of Ensign Global College at Kpong, Agnes Carboo, Nene Sipim and Dr Narh Tekpertey, among others, for the big roles they played in the project so far,” Manye Maku lauded.
Manye Maku made the passionate appeal when she, together with her project committee members, conducted the media around the project at Ayipala last Wednesday.
Items needed
Explaining the details to the media, Manye Maku said, the full block works, roofing, as well as plastering, was fully completed and it was left with other things such as louvre blades, doors, security lights, electrical wirings, tiling, toilet facilities and ceilings, among others, to make the work complete.
Manye Maku explained further that due to the location of the Ayipala Health Centre at Kpong, which was near the highways, a lot of accident victims patronised the facility in addition to a lot of maternity cases recorded at the place daily and that necessitated the building of the maternity home with bigger facilities to cater for both women in labour and accident victims, among other clients.
“We are looking at a bigger picture in the near future as to the discussions the committee had with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on the project.
With where the project is located, it is likely to be promoted as a polyclinic to serve more people not only in the catchment area but travellers from far and near as well.
In addition to the maternity home, it is in the plan that we shall add a children’s ward when the main maternity project is completed.
So, looking at the plan of the project, we have a bigger picture on hand, which all amounts to funds and that is why I am making this passionate appeal to complete the main project and then see the way forward,’’ she said.
She noted that the current 60-bed capacity one-storey maternity home ongoing project had eight rooms and four offices, including the nurses' restroom, nurses’ office, maternity ward, delivery room and labour ward, among others, adding: “The serene environment of the place will make it conducive for clients when completed”.
The Project Advisor, Razak Mohammed Zabado, said the location of the project called for every Ghanaian irrespective of the region, tribe and religious beliefs, among others, to be touched to contribute towards the project’s completion, adding, “Nobody knows who will fall victim to an accident on the Kpong-Akosombo highways, and in the same way, who knows when a pregnant woman travelling on this highway will be in labour’’.
