They are 0501333237, 0501291528 and 0501291529.

The helplines were introduced after 112 clinicians and tutors from hospitals, clinics, nursing and midwifery training schools and universities involved in the training of nurses and midwives from Accra and Tema were taken through a workshop on ethical and legal issues in nursery and midwifery.

The workshop was organised by the NMC as part of its mandate of ensuring the professional development of nursing and midwifery practitioners.

It was the first of regional workshops lined up for the year  to update the knowledge of nurses and midwives as well as to sharpen their skills for effective and efficient service delivery at their workplaces.

Code of ethics

“The Code of Ethics for nursing and midwifery practice stipulates that the practitioner’s first loyalty is to the client. The workshop was therefore intended to address the public outcry over the poor attitude of nurses towards their patients/clients,” the council said.

Accordingly, the objectives of the workshop, it said, were to build the capacity of participants to become competent ward managers; remind participants of the special responsibility they assume when caring for the sick; and re-orientate participants regarding their legal responsibilities in the practice of nursing and midwifery.

“The council would also like to urge management of all health facilities to enforce the wearing of name tags by their nursing and midwifery staff,” it said.
