‘Plan programmes to manage type one diabetes in schools’
A medical practitioner at the Trust Hospital, Dr Joseph Nelson, has called on management of boarding institutions to come out with an emergency care plan for boarding students living with Type one diabetes.
He said with the assistance of a nurse, management of boarding schools could draw the emergency plan to manage the critical condition of Type 1 diabetes in the school.
Dr Nelson said these when he addressed students at the St Mary’s Senior High School in Accra.
The sensitisation programme, organised by the Kafui Foundation for Childhood Diabetes in collaboration with the Diabetes Youth Care, was intended to create awareness of the disease.
The programme was organised as part of activities to mark this year’s National Diabetes Week and World Diabetes Day.
According to Dr Nelson, the critical condition needed good management and monitoring care for students living with the condition.
