Venue change announced for GNAT Cancer Foundation fundraising campaign launch
The GNAT Cancer Foundation (GCF) has announced a change in venue for the launch of its Cancer Fight Sustainability Fundraising Campaign.

Originally set to take place at Alisa Hotel, Accra, the event will now be held at the GNAT Hall, City Campus, Accra. The launch is scheduled for Friday, September 20, 2024, at 6pm.
All other event details remain unchanged, and the GCF has in a statement extended its apologies for any inconvenience caused by the venue shift.
The campaign aims to raise critical funds to address the growing number of cancer cases among teachers in Ghana.
According to the Foundation, there are currently 2,666 GNAT cancer patients, including 2,388 active service members and 278 retirees.
The rising costs of cancer treatment, which range from GH₵45,000 to GH₵250,000 per patient, have placed a significant financial strain on the Foundation.
Speaking ahead of the launch earlier this year, Mr. Asante Thomas Amstrong, Chair of the Foundation’s Board, emphasised the urgent need for sustainable solutions.
"At present, our members contribute GH₵5 to the Cancer Fund, which covers the member, their spouse, and two children under 18. However, this is insufficient given the rising costs of treatment," he said. The Fund now also supports retirees.

The event will introduce the GH₵5 For My Teacher campaign, allowing the public to donate via the shortcode *776*123# across MTN, Vodafone, and AirtelTigo networks.
The fundraising initiative aims to gather contributions from those who have been positively impacted by teachers, to help save their lives from cancer.
Dr. Clement Adusa, Chief Executive Officer of the Sweden Ghana Medical Centre, reiterated the importance of this effort, stating, "We must find sustainable solutions for treatment and management to prevent this grave issue from further impacting our educational system."
The GNAT Cancer Foundation has also made significant strides in cancer treatment, having enhanced the Sweden Ghana Medical Centre into a world-class facility, accessible to both GNAT members and the general public. This marks a major milestone in GNAT’s commitment to the health and welfare of its members, underscoring the need for broader support from the public, private corporations, and government entities.
The GCF invites all stakeholders, including government ministries, agencies, private corporations, religious bodies, and the diplomatic community, to contribute to this life-saving initiative.
