2016 Election: Nana Addo 'cool chop' for NDC, says Aseidu Nketia

The General-Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, says his party is not perturbed by Nana Akufo-Addo's decison to contest the 2016 Presidential Election.

Asiedu Nketia told Accra-based Citi Fm Thursday that the NDC was delighted by the decision, saying it will ensure an NDC victory in the 2016 Presidential Election.

He said the party plans to defeat and send Nana Addo into political retirement  in 2016.

According to him, the NPP has made the 2016 campaign very easy for the NDC because Akufo-Addo does not pose a threat.

Aseidu Nketia said of Nana Addo: “We know how to beat him. We will sharpen our campaign skills and give him a third time defeat.”

“In terms of age and energy to prosecute an effective campaign, we have a huge advantage over him. The NPP would have been better-off electing a younger person to lead the party in 2016,” he added.

Nana Akufo-Addo Thursday announced his decision to contest the 2016 Presidential Election.

He will now contest the NPP presidential primaries later this year.

Nana Addo made the announcement at his Nima residence in Accra in the presence of party supporters and the media.

Outlining the basis for the decision, Nana Addo said there had been overwhelming calls from Ghanaians with the "unanimous message" that he should contest the Presidential Election in 2016.

He said despite the disappointment of losing the 2008 and 2012 elections, "I cannot ignore these calls", adding that he was buoyed by the fact that many of those calling on him to contest had voted against him in the 2012 election.

Nana Addo said: "With great humility I can announce that when the party opens nominations sometime this year, I shall be ready, God willing, to contest for the position of NPP presidential candidate for the 2016 General Election.
