Afoko directs 'forensic examination' of Bugri Naabu tape

The National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr Paul Afoko has directed that a forensic examination should be conducted on the audio recording in which a voice purporting to be that of the Northern Regional Chairman, Mr. Daniel Bugri Naabu was making the rounds on various media platforms.

On the said tape, which was first played by Accra based Radio Gold last week, the voice said to be that of Bugri Naabu claimed that the NPP’s national chairman and General Secretary were in bed with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

On the tape, he also said that the two national executives of the main opposition party, Mr Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong have already received V8 vehicles from President John Mahama’s brother, Ibrahim Mahama.

The voice also claims that the two executives were being protected by National Security personnel.

The same voice on the tape also revealed plans that all 10 regional chairmen of the party were conspiring with the Minority in Parliament with the blessings of Flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo, running mate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, National Youth Organiser Sammy Awuku, First Vice Chairman Freddie Blay, and the National Treasurer among others.

Freddie Blay, should the conspiracy succeed, will succeed Afoko as national chairman of the party, according to the voice on the tape.

Bugri Naabu in a statement last Monday denied being the voice behind the tape recording and said it was “a calculated attempt to sow seeds of discord between him and the leadership of the party and to tarnish his hard won reputation.”

In a statement issued and signed by NPP's General Secretary, Mr Kwabena Agyepong on Friday, he said the matter had come to the attention of Steering Committee of the party and that they think a thorough investigation into the matter was justifiable, in order to ascertain the identity of the voice on the tape and the veracity of its contents.

He explained that at a meeting held on January 27, 2015 at the Party’s Headquarters, the Steering Committee of the NPP noted with deep concern contents of the the audio recording and the subsequent denial by Bugri Naabu.

“In view of the gravity of the allegations made in the said audio recording and the subsequent denial by Mr Bugri Naabu, the National Chairman has directed that the audio recording be forwarded for forensic examination,” Mr Agyepong wrote.

“Hopefully, this will expose any mischief meant to undermine the unity of the party”.
