Upper West PPP elects executive

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) in the Upper West Region has elected new executive members to man the affairs of the party in the region.

The incumbent regional chairman, his vice and seven other executive members from the region were retained unopposed during a delegates conference held in Wa last Saturday.

The other executive members were the  deputy regional secretary, deputy women's organiser, treasurer, organiser, education secretary, youth organiser and deputy organiser. 

The positions contested by three other nominees were the regional secretary, women's organiser and deputy youth organiser.

Out of the 272 delegates who voted, Mr Felix Pigru polled 200 votes to beat Jalilu Abdulai, who had 69 votes, for the post of secretary, while Madam Gladys Diedong became the Women's Organiser by polling 196 votes. The position of Deputy Youth Organiser went to Mr Alhassan Abubakar Baako, who had 177 votes.  There were three spoilt votes. The election was supervised by the officials from the UWR office of Electoral Commission.

The results ushered in a crop of dynamic executive members, including a female, as all the incumbent executive members who had held their posts since 2012 and been retained unopposed declared their preparedness to wrest power from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2016.

Executive

The retained regional officers are the Chairman, Mr James K.  Sohimwinye; Vice-Chairman, Mr Mathew Dumah; Deputy Secretary, Sallam Abdul Badiu, Treasurer; Mr Anthony Kugbee and Organiser; Mr Alhassan Nizomdeen. 

Other positions are Deputy Organiser being occupied by Mr Adams Dawda, Deputy Women Organiser, Ms Halitu Sahadatui, Youth Organiser, Mr Ahmed Mustapha, and Education Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Zumayelle Ankama.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Sohimwinye expressed his profound gratitude to the delegates for the trust reposed in him and urged the executive to work tirelessly with him to ensure victory come 2016 . He called on them to see themselves as members of the same family who should resolve their misunderstanding amicably. Earlier, he had advised the delegates to remain focused and vote for the deserving persons who would ensure victory for the party.

The executive members were sworn in by a member of the National Election Committee, Mr Clement Yeboah.
