Agumenu denies assault report in NDC Akatsi North primaries

The campaign team of Dr. Donald Agumenu, a National Democratic Congress parliamentary aspirant for the Akatsi-North constituency has denied allegations that he used military officers to assault branch executives.

A statement issued by the team described the developments as very disturbing as it coming from “a clique within the constituency executive which has decided to take sides in the constituency parliamentary contest.

“There have been some unsavoury developments in the constituency primarily created by some elements who intend to sow seeds of discontent against Dr. Agumenu with the aim of casting him as a violent person”, the statement pointed out.

It said Dr. Agumenu and his team have been victims of violence over the past few days for which some of the victims have been compelled to report to the police.

“Indeed, at some point thugs supported by some elements in the constituency threatened to burn the aspirant’s vehicle.

“The police is aware of these matters and Dr. Agumenu and his team urge all constituents to remain resolute, eschew violence and campaign peacefully and responsibly as we draw closer to the Parliamentary primaries.”

The statement quoted Dr. Agumenu as saying, “It is not my nature to apply violence in my bid to serve my people in Parliament. I do not have the power or right to use soldiers as alleged by the false statement issued by Dr. Richard Awudza. I will however not be distracted by these actions. Let us forge ahead in our quest to seek refreshing change for our constituency.”
