But following an internal party disagreement in the constituency, he has gone ahead to file to contest the 2024 Parliamentary Election as an independent candidate after the NDC selected Joana Gyan Cudjoe as its parliamentary candidate.

On Wednesday [Oct 16], it came out that the Electoral Commission has disqualified Joana Gyan Cudjoe as a parliamentary candidate following a pending court case before the High Court in Sekondi.

Commenting the new development, Mr Kwakye-Ackah expressed his willingness to collaborate with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the December general elections.

Now running as an independent candidate, Kwakye-Ackah insists that despite the disqualification of Cudjoe, he remains open to working with the NDC to build a united front.

In a radio interview with Accra based Joy FM Mr Kwakye-Ackah said “I believe we can collaborate. There’s no need to stretch this matter further. Sometimes, things happen for good.”

He emphasised the importance of unity and cooperation, saying, “I have filed as an independent, but I could stand in as the NDC’s candidate. I think it went well for the NDC. Sometimes we need to take some decisions and if this lady, Joan Gyan has been disqualified that means that the party should be grateful that I am a party member, I am the sitting member of Parliament for the party and I filed as an independent so what is the problem? We should all come together and  in case I win  I am still a member of the party", he said.

The disqualification of Joana Gyan Cudjoe followed a petition to the EC, citing a pending order of interlocutory injunction that restrains her from being recognized as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central.
