She has, therefore, urged Ghanaians, especially identifiable groups in the country, to assist the EC to educate their members on the need to show much interest in the upcoming elections.

She was speaking at a day's interaction with the media, community -based organisations and civil society organisations.

Electoral process

The workshop was to improve knowledge of the electoral process and sensitise the electorate to play a watchdog role during the elections.

Mrs Opoku -Amankwaah said, however, that in spite of the apathy, a lot of people were showing interest and using the DLE as a stepping stone to national politics.

She said she was hopeful that the participants would go back to their organisations and serve as the mouthpiece of the elections.

Violation of electoral laws

An official at the training department of the EC, Mr Michael Boadu, warned against the use of colours of any political party for the elections.

He said as part of punishments for ignoring the laws, offenders could be imprisoned or pay fines.

He said the “No verification, No Vote” mantra would be applied since it was still in force.

The Eastern Regional Director of the EC, Mr Dogbey Dukpo Serlomey, commended the participants for showing interest in the programme.
