Ashanti Region did not record minors voting - EC

“We are yet to record any complaint about minors who fully participated in the general election. None of our officers had also informed us about such incidence”, Mr Tetteh told the Daily Graphic in an interview.

For his part, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammed Yusif Tanko, said there were speculations about minors who intended to participate in the just ended elections, but none of their officers who monitored the exercise  in any of the polling stations in the region witnessed minors exercising their franchise.

“Parents whose children participated in the biometric registration exercise might have known the implications of allowing their children to exercise  their franchise, so they might have warned them, “ he noted.

ASP Tanko also said that none of the police stations in the region had recorded complaints from the leadership of the political parties in the region  about minors participating in the exercise.

He, however, said that they recorded incidents of double voting, and that they were being investigated.

“Police have records of double voting at some polling stations which would be made public soon”, he noted.
