None of the four contestants, Stephen Boateng, Michael Amoa-Awuku, Stephen Gyasi Debrah and Isaac Ohemeng Prempeh could poll the mandatory two-thirds majority votes.

To emerge winner, one needed to secure 38 votes out of the 56 cast.

After the first round of voting, the two candidates with the least votes withdrew their nomination and this set the stage for a straight race between Boateng and Amoa-Awuku.

In the second round of voting, Boateng had 24 votes as against 30 for Amoa-Awuku, while the former’s votes dropped to 23 with the latter maintaining the 30 votes in the third round.

With no sign that the deadlock could be broken, the election, supervised by the Electoral Commission (EC), was postponed to May 28.
