Bawumia pledges to make Ghana’s youth his “number one priority” as President
The Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has assured Ghana’s youth that they will be his primary focus if he is elected as President in 2025.
Speaking at a youth-centred event broadcast on Sunday, Dr Bawumia emphasised his commitment to prioritising the needs of young people and outlined his vision for a youth-focused, business-friendly economic plan.

"I have chosen this occasion to have a conversation with you, the young people of Ghana, mainly to remind you of the commitment I made to you exactly a year ago to make you my number one priority," Dr Bawumia said, adding that his administration would focus on sustaining economic recovery and expanding opportunities in education and employment.
The Vice President highlighted his intention to build on Ghana’s economic momentum, referencing recent improvements as evidence of potential for further growth under his leadership.
"My commitment is to transform Ghana, to build on the economic recovery we are witnessing by introducing bold business-friendly policy initiatives from January 2025, which are designed to stimulate significant economic activity,” he said, expressing confidence that such efforts would yield “the large pool of diverse jobs that the young people of Ghana desire and deserve."
Dr Bawumia also shared optimistic economic forecasts, noting that Ghana’s growth outlook for 2024 has been revised upwards to 4 percent, with further expansion expected in 2025. He compared this with the 3.4 percent growth rate recorded in 2016 under former President John Mahama, adding, "In fact, for 2025, S&P is more buoyant with their forecast at 5.4 percent. I am even more optimistic that it is possible to do even more if, with your vote, you elect me as your next President and we implement my comprehensive business-friendly and job creation programmes as outlined in the NPP Manifesto."
Emphasising a structured approach to youth empowerment, Dr Bawumia highlighted three core areas: education, skills development, and a robust economic environment conducive to job creation. As part of his plans, he committed to enacting a new tax regime to promote entrepreneurship and attract investment.
Reflecting his confidence in a promising future for Ghana’s young people, Dr Bawumia concluded, “Just to give you a little indication about my faith in what is possible for us to achieve together beginning January 2025, the growth of the Ghanaian economy has been revised upwards to 4% for 2024 and higher in 2025.”
