Campaign heats up in Central Region NPP elections

With less than a week to go for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regional election, an aspiring regional first vice-chairman  has decided to inject what he described as modernity into the body politic by establishing ‘business’ centres in all 23 constituencies in the Central Region.

Mr Horace Ekow Ewusi, an industrialist and philanthropist, told the Daily Graphic when he donated 23 computers and accessories and 23 motorbikes to various constituencies that, “We want to be independent of ourselves to enhance democracy.”

He said his vision was to ensure that the constituencies were run as business entities, with delegates as board of directors or trustees of the company.

“The idea to donate these items is to discourage a practice where delegates solely rely on Members of Parliament (MPs) and other government officials to function,” Mr Ewusi noted.

He added, “We want to make politics cleaner and more enjoyable. We don’t want to put pressure on the government any longer.”

The philanthropist is of the view that the initiative, the first of its kind, will inspire the branches and the constituency delegates to spontaneously campaign in the 2020 elections because they would have been motivated.

Mr Ewusi used the occasion to commend President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for fulfilling his policies aimed at improving the lives of Ghanaians, stressing that: “We are prepared to support the good cause.”

The NPP Constituency Chairman for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK), Mr Phealias Kweku-Baah Ewudzie, who received the items on behalf of the constituencies, thanked Mr Ewusi for the gesture and expressed the hope that the items would greatly enhance work in the constituencies.
